Rashes that are result of a scabies infection or scabies are sometimes hard to detect. For a person who has been diagnosed with scabies before it is not only easy to understand the symptoms but the symptoms themselves start showing of earlier than before. This means that a person who may have acquired the scabies causing mites on his or her body may not understand it even for a time period of up to a month. Some times it becomes difficult even for doctors to identify scabies. Never the less come scabies and gradually and slowly but surely some very apparent symptoms will start showing.

Just like many viral or bacterial infections or even a serious medical disorder, rashes of different kinds start to show up on the body, so does it occur in the case of scabies.

A reddish or brownish or brownish color rash covers the skin when scabies causing mites infect the body. The rash consists of very small eruptions that are red in color. There may or may not be blisters. The rash mostly occurs in the skin of the regions that form folds or joints in the body. These include areas like fingers and the gaps in between them and in joints like wrists, elbows, knees and underarms.

The rash also occurs in genital areas and in and around the penis in males. It may well occur in the abdomen, around the navel, on the thighs, around and on the area of the buttocks, in breasts and around nipples. Though scabies usually do not occur in the palms, soles of the feet, neck or facial region it might happen if the person concerned is a baby or a very young child. The rashes instead of looking like pimples may also sometimes look like hard red insect bites. The rash may also be either accompanied or followed by rashes that arise out of hives.

In cases where the scabies is more developed and severe of the Norwegian type and thousands of mites maybe in the skin of the infested person the rash will have a crusty appearance. It forms a thick layer that is absolutely dry and has a scaly feel. In this case the rash might just affect the scalp too which is not the case when infection is caused by the presence of a few mites.

Burrows describe what appears on the surface of the skin during a scabies infection. Burrows are actually very light and thin lines that are slightly curved in shape. Though they are light they are prominent because of their reddish or brownish color and often their visibility depends on the skin color of the person that has been infested with it. They can be observed on the skin along the path of the movement of the mites.

A doctor may sometimes scale a portion of skin and a mite can easily be observed at either points, where the burrow begins or ends. This maybe possible mostly if the mite is an adult female mite. These marks mostly occur in between the fingers and in the area of the wrist. Nevertheless every curved line along the skin is not a burrow mark due to scabies. Stretch marks many a times are mistaken for burrows, and this happens because starch marks also tend to itch at times making the person feel that it might as well be scabies. Itching, takes us to the next important symptom of scabies that is itching.

The rash in scabies is not only in the form of lumps or bumps or eruptions but like many other rash it also itches. However there is a marked difference in the itching caused by scabies and the itching due to other reasons. For a person with scabies itching becomes a necessity like breathing. The itch never stops. There are no moments of subsiding and rising and the itching is continuous. However in other rashes itching is not so consistent and thus it is this itching of scabies rash that is one of the most marked and observable symptoms of all.

Impetigo may be another symptom since severe scratching can cause other rashes like it.

If you are suffering from scabies it is only natural that from the time the itch begins you will never be able to have proper sleep. This is because the itch is most severe during the hours of rest or at night. Invariably sleep is always less, incomplete and disturbed.
