Dog scabies also known as dog mange is produced by a mite. We distinguish between ear scabies and body scabies.

Scabies causes atrial irritation of the external ear. If we can see dark crusts and the dog is scratching his ears, that means the dog has ear mites. This disease mainly affects young animals. It is very contagious, but it is not transmissible to humans.

The identification of the mite by microscopic sampling crusts easily confirms the diagnosis. The treatment involves applying a medicine onto in form of ear drops or pest ointment.

Body scabies is much more serious, but fortunately much rarer than the ear itch. It is transmissible to humans, the diagnosis is more difficult and treatment is cumbersome and lengthy. Moreover, the itching is very intense.

If no treatment is applied, complications may lead to the death of the animal. Anti seborrheic dips and shampoo baths must be initiated as soon as possible.
